Vedran Mimica is a professor of architecture and urban planning at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Upon graduation at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb, he joined the Berlage Institute, where he was its last dean from 2007 until 2012. He taught at some of the most prestigious universities and established the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize with Wiel Arets in 2013, as a counterpoint to the European Mies van der Rohe Award. On the occasion of the publishing of his new book, The Berlage Affair, we spoke to Vedran Mimica about cultural identity, architectural education and research, global economic flows, and technology and posthuman society.
